Event security is normally priced around the number and type of personnel required, the hours of cover, venue, location, risk level, supervision and any search or access-control duties. Rather than applying one generic rate to every event, Semper Security prices the actual operational requirement. Request an exact quote.
There is no single staffing number that is right for every event. The deployment should be based on the event risk assessment, attendance, crowd profile, venue layout, entrances and exits, alcohol, search requirements, restricted areas, operating hours and emergency arrangements. Premises-licence conditions or Safety Advisory Group requirements can also affect staffing. Explore Event Security & Crowd Management.
There is no universal UK ratio that automatically applies to every event. Appropriate staffing is risk-led and can be influenced by the venue, event plan, crowd profile, premises licence, local authority requirements and Safety Advisory Group advice. A simple guest-to-guard formula should not replace a proper security and crowd-management assessment.
Stewards generally focus on customer assistance, directions, ticketing and non-licensable safety duties. Security guards perform licensable guarding activity within the scope of their licence. Door supervisors are licensed for a wider range of security duties and are commonly required for security at licensed premises when the relevant licensable conditions apply. The role should be matched to the duties, not just the job title.
If the work is licensable under the Private Security Industry Act, the operative must hold the correct SIA licence for the activity being carried out. Some event stewarding duties are non-licensable, which is why the planned duties matter. Semper verifies applicable licences before deployment. Read the official SIA guidance.
A professional key-holding service allows an authorised security provider to retain controlled access keys and respond when required. Following an alarm activation, the responder attends, checks the premises, follows the agreed escalation procedure, records the attendance and takes the agreed next action if damage, intrusion or another issue is found. It removes the need for an employee or director to attend an uncertain situation alone. View Key Holding & Alarm Response.
Manned guarding provides a continuous on-site presence and is usually better where access control, monitoring or immediate intervention is needed throughout the shift. Mobile patrols provide scheduled or varied physical checks at intervals and can suit lower-risk sites that still need a visible deterrent and documented inspections. Some locations benefit from combining both. View Mobile Patrols.
Manned guarding can include access control, visitor and contractor checks, patrols, incident response, opening and closing procedures, monitoring vulnerable areas and maintaining a visible security presence. Duties should be defined in site-specific instructions and matched to the risks of the location. View Manned Guarding.
Martyn's Law is the Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act 2025. It introduces preparedness duties for qualifying premises and certain larger public events. Current SIA guidance says the substantive requirements are expected to come into force in spring 2027. Broadly, qualifying premises expecting 200 to 799 people fall within the standard duty tier, while enhanced duties apply to qualifying premises and certain qualifying events expecting 800 or more people; detailed scope rules and exclusions still need to be checked for each operation. Read the current statutory guidance.
